If you look just up the street and carry on past the Church, on the right you will see the location of The Asylum for the Blind, now the offices for the oil company Xodus. In order to aid the blind and partially sighted, the VSA ran an employment programme there in the 1880s. They learned a trade by touch and created nets, mats and baskets for everything from fishing lines to fruit trees, church mats to tennis nets. This meant they could earn a living and be free of a life of destitution. The VSA has always been able to see the bigger picture. Teach something the skills they will need to be able to support themselves going forward.

If your life has been touched by VSA, we invite you to share you story
