The VSA’s own archives give notice of a lunch, to be held at the Palace Restaurant, which was located here. In the 1960s, the Aberdeen Social Workers’ Luncheon Club had a monthly guest speaker to join them. The guest speaker on Wednesday 6th March 1963, was Miss Miriam Leith of Canada, who will speak on “Social Conditions Amongst the Canadian Eskimos”. How amazing it is that this ground-breaking young woman came to further her studies in Aberdeen and that the social workers of Aberdeen got to hear about her extraordinary experiences and insights. This was one Luncheon Club we wish the digital age had been around for, so hearing from Miriam could live on forever!
